Our God is an Awesome God

On April 12, 2012, our lives changed forever. You can venture back through my posts and find out that I can't say it was bad. It was bad for a few minutes until God got my head on straight. We started that day praying and making the decision to follow whatever God leads us to and not question why. We just kept holding on to the fact that he was holding on to us and we have had an adventurous year.

On April 12, 2013, once again, our lives changed forever. Andrew got the "unofficial" call that he would be getting the "official" call on Monday. Today, as promised, he was offered the position of Store Manager for our Effingham Goodwill Store. Please remember that Goodwill is a not-for-profit, focusing all its profits on improving the lives of people who are in crisis.  I can't tell you how thrilled I am that we both work for organization whose goal is to make life better.

We hadn't told many people because it wasn't really relevant but Andrew was laid off last December. If you remember, when he left Walmart, we set everything up so that if Andrew never ended up going back to work, it would be okay, but it became clear very soon thereafter that he didn't handle staying at home. He decided then that he would love to do something that helped people. He had looked into Habitat for Humanity but there were no positions close enough. Of course, he worked as a security guard for Menards from June until the layoff in December. The layoff was supposed to be a transfer to Ameren but poor timing left him without a position. Ironically, it caused him to be able to draw unemployment. Even more ironic was the fact that he hadn't worked for Menards three quarters so he was drawing his unemployment off of his Walmart wages, which made him getting more in unemployment than he ever brought home from Menards. As I said, God takes very good care of us. On top of everything else, he didn't complain but the Menards job was really getting to him. Being that close to retail and having no say wasn't fun. Security was never Andrew's calling.

So, Andrew starts looking for a job and not finding anything. along about the middle of February, he was getting really down. As I said, we were financially fine but his state of mind had me worried. I started praying that God would do something about this. Then the Tire place across the road went up for sale. God wasn't pointing anything else in our direction so Andrew started working on the business plan to buy the place . Through this, he started getting his self-esteem back. It was feasible and the guys had talked a bit about opening their own place, really, Robert opening his own place and when Andrew retired, helping him out. So, we thought maybe God wanted to do this sooner.  After talking with a few people it was clear that even if we started a business, it wasn't going to be in the building across the road.

About two weeks ago, this job came up. He was really excited because it would mean he could use all those years in retail to help others....exactly what he wanted to do.  Anybody who thinks looking into the buying the business was a waste of time doesn't know what they are talking about. Andrew had his pride back, which is probably what sealed the deal on this job.

After the first interview, he came home and said, "I want to work for this company". After the second interview he came home and said he would be crushed if he didn't get the job and that Brian had told him he would let him know, either way, on Friday......Friday......April 12th.......do you see the significance?

At around 3:30 Friday afternoon the phone rang, Brian called to tell him he didn't have the details all worked out but that he wanted to let him know that he would be calling him Monday to make the official offer, and he did.

So as of this evening, he has a new job, he has a new job that he wants to do. To say that God takes care of us is just the understatement of the year. God is good, all the time.

His love for us in sending His Son was all we ever needed, His blessing us with our jobs, our family, our home, our animals and every other thing in our life is just nothing short of Awesome.
